Discussion items

Joel - recommended Python class online: MITx: 6.00.1x  Introduction to Computer Science and Programming Using Python

Web Team:

Held a review of the tssg web site and existing design recommendations. Looked for feedback from others in the meeting.

Suggestion that we either keep the same color for the schedule icons or have obvious differences.  It's confusing that the colors are similar.

Newest wireframe from Lora, based on Jim D's demo plus the Monday web team discussion:
http://loralbates.com/tssg/SprintThree/index.html
Shows labeled icons at the bottom of the General Meeting section.
Additional Home icon at the bottom of each section to be used with Web, QA, Mobile and Data.
We mentioned that hover text doesn't normally work well on mobile.
We probably need to see something prototyped for mobile before stating stronger opinions.
Icons might be too small for mobile when they contain identifying text.
Some people hate the carousel. Say it doesn't add anything.

Mobile Team:

Mark gave a demo of his creation of Jira/Kanban project and the problems that have come up along the way.

Mark will be working with Shawn on creating a workable, shared project. Nobody else in the meeting had enough Jira knowledge to help them with their configuration issues.

Future actions for the Web Team:

A Web Design Meeting will be held Thursday 9am - 10 8/9/2018 Joel, Tyler, Ken, Jim T. and Lora

Web developers will try to prototype something similar to Lora's latest design with icons between the general meeting section and the meeting agenda information.

Each section will be presented as its own page rather than having a single, long scrolling page.

Prototype results may help in the design process.

  1. Great work on another prototype.  Didn't get an answer why the Confluence one could not be modified.

What happened to using pictures instead of words?  There are no images used to describe each page/section.

Why did agenda come back to general page?  It should be on the schedule page.

There is no longer any brief descriptions of the sub-teams on the general page?

Is the DevOps team OK with not being included?  Have they been contacted?

In summary, We have added icons at the bottom of each page/section.  Is this the only change?

  2. I am not OK with the DevOps Team not being added to the tssg.tech website.  I had requested being added weeks ago!  We are up to 10 members and have been an official TSSG project since I asked to create the group and was approved at the 2-May TSSG General meeting.  We had our first DevOps meeting on 10-May!  There is a Team Page, DevOps page describing the content that should be posted.

Why is this taking so long?  Does Lora L. Bates have an alternative agenda?

  3. Joel Sharasheff , Please have Mark send out specific JIRA questions, issues, comments to me and the DevOps google group.  We will do our best to research and assist.

  4. Jim Drewniak , What is the Confluence modification issue that you are referring to?  Could it be related to the recent removal of Annonymous create permission in Confluence?  This was necessary to prevent unwanted postings from non-TSSG people (like the two pages we had from someone in Turkey).

A solution to help the rest of the team would be to create a generic tssg-member user account that is shared among team members who want to contribute.   Unfortunately, all of our 10 Confluence licenses are used at the moment.  I have reached out to Alan Rawsthorne and will be reaching out to Tyler Putnam (which he will get notified automatically from this post) to see if one of them would be willing to give up their account slot so that we can create a shared account for the group.
