The MVP wireframe.  TWS-9 - Getting issue details... STATUS

The following is a description and wireframe of the minimum requirements for the TSSG web site, including the display of the group logo, site navigation and content area sections.

The following design guidelines are for the TSSG.TECH Website Development Project only.

Font is ARIAL family - regular, italics, bold, bold italics - uppercase, sentence case, lower case.

Keep color scheme very simple for now - blue like in logo (cmyk = 100/100/0/33, html = 0000AB) black, gray, white.

All descriptions are italicized.

We are creating the site with Bootstrap with a goal of responsive design across laptops, tablets and mobile devices.

From the Home Page:

The TSSG logo (minus the tag line) is centered at the top of the page.

Followed by a centered heading

TECHNICAL SKILLS SHARE GROUP (TSSG)

    Color Usage

My preference is to have a single color used for all TSSG pages.  Having pages use a consistent color scheme (one main color) will help people identify that they are on a TSSG page.  This helps with brand identification across TSSG pages.  Multiple colors look too busy for me.  Example:  boston-spin  http://boston-spin.org/

    Layout

Use a Header section that is common on each page.  This makes it easier for people by adding consistency to navigate from page to page.

Include a navigation bar with one or two words for each project (not one letter).  Example:  Projects → Web, Mobile, SQA, Data Analytics

Include a Footer section that is common on each page. This makes it easier for people by adding consistency to navigate from page to page.  Example:  See bottom of ibm.com

Avoid centering text on pages.  This is reminiscent of the unprofessional MySpace pages.

    Recap:

    • common single color (avoid multiple colors) across pages
    • navigation bar common to all pages
    • add header section
    • add footer section
    • avoid centering text on pages
  2. Regarding Testimonials vs. Reviews

    • Unidentifiable customer testimonials have no meaning because they can be made up.  I for one (and many like me) don't give much credence to non-verifiable testimonials.
      • Besides not having the person's name, not knowing when the testimonial was written is also a problem.  When was the testimonial written?  Five years ago?  How much value do you think an old testimonial has today?
      • If you use testimonials, make sure they have who and when the quote was created.  I would hope that TSSG is not about beefing up its image by resorting to subterfuge-like tactics of omitting information on testimonials.
    • Reviews from a third party (like that provided by Meetup for groups) are more useful in a couple of ways:
      • The third party (e.g. Meetup) becomes disassociated with the group being reviewed; thus lending more credence to the review.
      • Reviews present an honest view, good and bad, of people's dealings with the group.
      • Negative reviews give the opportunity to turn them into a positive by:
        • Officially responding to the negative experience publicly.  If the group is concerned about its presence in the marketplace, it will gain more by being aware of and confronting the issues head-on as opposed to trying to hide them in old testimonials.
        • Possibly changing the group's policy to accommodate more people's needs.  This is turning a negative into a positive.
        • Without reviews, we may never know what people actually think of the group or why they might choose not to attend.  We can't fix what we don't know.

    1. Regarding Testimonials vs. Reviews:

First, a major issue is - does TSSG have the bandwidth to manage such a thing?

I know from personal experience, I have been trying to smoothly hand-off the Weekly Admin for several months now, it has not gone well.  I'm VERY concerned that starting something like this will quickly fall into disrepair - which will hurt the org.  Good intentions leading to bad results.  The Weekly Admin procedure is less time consuming than to check for new reviews and write a well thought out response.

Second, this was a new request made just last week.  Andy needs to make a call.

Finally, not a "Must Have" for this project. Not just in the 1st sprint - not needed as part of creating a Responsive Design Site.

  3. There is nothing to manage.  We already do reviews in Meetup.  Just provide a link to the reviews or scrape what is there once in a great while.

  4. If that's true, nothing about testimonials should be in this project

    The ONLY note would be:

Provide a link to the reviews in Meetup; they will manage all testimonials.
