Background

One of the common concerns people have is finding things.  You can organize your issues (user stories) in many ways.  One method is set them up under an Epic.  An Epic being a large scale deliverable that would need to broken up into small ones (user stories).  Jira has an issue type for Epic.  This example will show you one way to see the Epics and User stories in a project.

There have been four Epics with four US each imported into this project.  The import is not covered here.  Check out -> Importing issues (user stories) into Jira.

Open Issue

Launch Jira, Select the Project and then Issues from the left navigation link

This screen can be altered and saved to be more helpful

Select “View all issues and filers” located on the right side of the screen.

You might want to add the column “Epic Name” to the list if not already there.  Select Columns (located on the right side of the screen, scroll till you see Epic Name, Check it, and select Done.

You can click and hold the Epic Name header to drag it to where you would like it located.

The Search screen appears and you can change the filter like “Type: All” to “Epic”.  This will list them in LIFO order.  Select the header “Epic Name” user that sequence.

Now save this for future use.  Select Save As, Enter a name of the filter, TIS Epics, and then Save

It will be saved as a Favorite Filter.  This can be reused later by selecting it from here.

Ok, Now you are saying, “What did I do all of this for in the first place?”  Well, When you select the key to a Epic you can see this screen that places everything associated with the Epic on one screen.
